I too struggled with socks! buy a few zip lingerie bags to wash pairs in! It is so worth the cost!

Consider buying some sweater bags, cheesecloth bags or fine mesh laundry bags. Each person gets one. Bag is labeled.. Each person puts socks in bag. Never lost a sock yet with mine, . . I had 6 brothers.. same. Throw the bags in wash, dryer and hand back. Anyone not using bags loses 1 hr of fav thing. TV games. Whatever. It works if you work it. When my brothers balked.. Mother took something away for a week. 2nd offense was a month. 3rd – final offense it was donated to charity. Only once did that happen. All knew mother never threatened. She just did. With mine they never went pass 2nd offense. The quote ” what do you want in life good attention or bad” I overhead said to their friends… they told their friends they got smart right away. Good more time for this, more matched funds for that.. I walked away and thought. When did they become too smart😉😊

There are sock monsters on every continent. Not fun when they visit your dryer, though. I typically wear two different colors because of the beast.
