How the other half live.

Having a right laugh reading my meters so I can tell the readings to the energy company so they can charge me the price of my kidneys to not turn the heating on at all this winter.

I should stop there really and let you enjoy the picture of my cobweb infested ceiling.

You going “out out?”

That, in Swansea, means out on the town, all glammed up, drinkies, heels and hair done.

No I am not. I’m dressed in yesterday’s jumper, my shoes are muddy, my coat is soaking and my dog is clearly delighted to be dragged around the block in sideways, January sleet.

Still no winter beach, no big sky.

My only essential travel is to buy food and growl, masked at people who come close. It’s hard to feel so anxious when people forget and reach over to take stuff off shelves. What on earth do you do?

Bonnie looks at me…

She’d growl first…

I might try that next time.

Walking in a winter wonderland.

The lights this year are lovely on my street. I can ignore the litter and the rain when I see the houses lit up.

Bread of heaven.

Stupidly cold here at the moment. We have Siberian winds and snow heralding our St David’s day and first day of spring with a wind chill factor of minus seven.
The hens’ water is freezing so my axe is coming in handy although once the water is frozen solid I’ll switch to plastic tubs as you can top them up throughout the day.
The entire infrastructure of the country has ground to a halt and the Welsh have come out in force to panic buy entire stocks of sliced white bread to live off. The shelves are bare in our local shops.
If you have a loaf of white bread, you will survive the storm, maybe the stuff mops up snow or something. It’s a very bizarre tradition but it keeps us Welsh secure knowing we have our trusty loaf by our side.
The roads are quiet and all the schools have shut early. We’re waiting for the worse of the weather to come in tonight.
Grab your loaf and stay warm.

Winter is coming.

This year’s hat selection includes a gothic black knitted beanie, a sparkly unicorn and a Pokemon Pikachu to keep their heads happy and warm.

That snowy feeling…

…you know, that feeling you get when you finish school for the day and you find out it’s snowing.

Hats are on.

We had our first frosty morning of the winter today so the hats have come back out. Some new, some old firm favourites and some have just been left in the cupboard because they’re not going to be worn.

Soggy chips.

Sometimes you just know when it’s time to go home.

Cliff Hanger.

When it doesn’t rain in Swansea, you have to make the most of it.
Even if it is January, even if it is cold and even if it means bribing your children with a flask of hot chocolate to get them on that cliff top walk down to the sea.

Hat hair.

An inevitable result of much woolly hat wearing in this weather.

Wrap up warm.

Apparently it’s all about layers.
Sorry Gruff I’ll try a few less tomorrow so you can at least walk to school and move your arms…
